I went to buy petrol today and noticed that they have changed the way they give Clubcard points at the pump.

They were giving 1 point for every £2 spent but have changed it to 1 point for every 2 litres bought. With the price approx. £1.45 litre that means you have to spend about £3 for 1 point. Slightly less for E10 and more for the others.

    Sneaky!!! :nonofinger:

I think I've got one of Tescos cards, got it for online shopping, I only had one shop delivered the next week they never turned up and when I asked why they said we cant tell you.:dunno:

      So never used them again.

I never get petrol in Tesco, they're millionaires and I don't want to give them any of my money. I'd rather buy it in a local garage down the road. It's the same price.
I have got a clubcard and use it on the rare occasions I buy something there, but I don't go there often so it's hardly worth the effort. I resent giving my money to millionaires.

I stopped using supermarket petrol some years ago, the fuel is so bad my previous car wouldn't run properly. Loss of power on acceleration and pinking.

What a shame! I've got fond memories of all the things we bought or did with the very generous voucher scheme they offered. They used to pay for several trips or mini-breaks in France per year, and one year the vouchers covered a week of hospitality for our Parisien friends and their two children. Trips to London and York and all the various amusements, restaurants, Wicksteed Park...those vouchers were a Godsend  There's certainly nothing that even comes close in France!

We do most of our shopping at Tesco and they have many items with large discounts for Clubcard members. Just had a quick look. Lurpak Spreadable 750 gm £6.75 but £5.50 with a Clubcard.
I used to buy my petrol at Tesco as they were the only supermarket stocking E5 but now I hardly do any miles I have started buying bp Ultimate E5.

As we don't have any local small business petrol stations I go to whichever of the nearby ones (not very nearby) is cheaper at the time when going into town for shopping. I use E10 and have never had any trouble with it.

I do find that Clubcard purchases in store can be exceptionally cheap in some cases but for doing a large shop (makes the journey worthwhile) I write out my shopping list and then search the prices on line. With the last three large shops (around £100) I have saved just over £10 each time by doing my online search.

I've no objection to any business becoming rich as long as they provide the quality and service I require. I would quite happily have been a millionaire if my shop would have made me one :) I also shop at our village shops.

I did our shopping in Aldi and Asda yesterday. I actually only bought 12 cans of Tetly smooth from Asda but both stores were selling 750g Lurpak for a fiver. I actually buy Aldi's Norpak now, at £2.19 per 500g it makes the taste even better.

Why have inflated prices just to discount Clubcard members only?

I don't shop in Tesco because they were displaying multi promotion deals that had time expired. I experienced this first hand 18 years ago and was fobbed off that I should of checked the expiry date. Tesco were investigated over this over a number of years where two thirds of there stores visited were found to have multi buy promotions marked on the shelves but the time limit had expired resulting in discounts not being applied at the checkout.

Tesco have also changed the exchange rate when buying breaks etc with clubcard points. It was 3 to 1 until recently now it's come down to 2 to 1. A couple of weeks ago we used our points for a night's stay in a spa hotel, with all meals and a couple of treatments.

My understanding is, when exchanging Tesco points for vouchers to spend at any of Tesco reward partners, they will only be worth 2 to 1. I think this comes in to force from the 14th June, so it would be wise to cash them in now. Tesco are also increasing the basket value to qualify for home delivery from £40 to £50. Also if your on the Tesco mobile network, then also from the 14th June you will be charged for roaming while visiting European countries.

I used to use Asda here but they were terrible. Regularly 4 or 5 items short and never a substitute. My local Tesco seldom has shortages and always give good substitutions.

I buy Lurpak at Tesco using my clubcard and also wait for the occasional discount on it. I then buy it in bulk in the plastic tubs because it can be frozen, unlike the blocks.

I no longer bother with home deliveries (used to have them from Sainsbury's during lockdown) as I not only am saving something over £10 per shop by checking prices on line first but as I go into the stores when they open I get the best choice of all the fruit, veg and meat.

For example:- Broccoli loose was £2.58 per kilo, shrink wrapped was £1.29per 500gm (same price) except the shrink wrapped varied greatly in size and actually looked a lot fresher than the loose. I sorted through the shrink wrapped and picked what looked the best and largest. Then I weighed it and it was 766gm instead of the 500.

With regard to meats, as an amateur chef (although I have worked in professional kitchens) I much prefer to see what I'm getting and to pick my own.
