I'm thinking of planting a hedge of Teucrium x lucidrys. It'll be quite an investment as it's long. The position is very sunny.

Does anyone know if these plants are long lived? Are there any cultivation and maintenance issues I should know about?

Not something I know, RHS site says to avoid an acid soil - hopefully that isn't a problem?

They look like they would be easy to propagate, so if they are short lived that might be a solution? a "replacement project" to keep you busy ! and if they are expensive then if not needed you could perhaps move them on.

The problem is not so much replacing dead plants, it’s establishing new ones in the middle of a mature hedge.

If it’s the sort of hedge you have to rip out every five years or so, like lavender, fine, but I’d like to be forewarned.

Yup. I have plants growing on as substitutes for when that happens. But I am fortunate to have a large veg and nursery area "round the back" for that sort of stuff.

I don't know about whether it will be "rip out" but I too was looking at the plant and thinking "Like Lavender". Hopefully someone else has experience of it.
