    Hiya chums:)
No doubt a few of us will be growing these this year, so I thought I'd start a thread. In a few days I'll be sowing some 'Joes Long' that I picked up at a garden centre today. I've had mixed success in the past, but always got some fruits at the end of it. I did notice that Nathan posted a website specifically for Chilli growing, so I hope I'm not treading on his toes by posting this.

    Cheers...Freddy

I'm growing a few varieties under cover this year. I've planted a cayenne and capsicum as greenhouse is heated. Previous success with cayenne. When you say some fruit was it a good yield per plant?

        Hiya Gwen.
What I meant was, I have had variable success with Chilli growing. Sometimes lots of fruits, sometimes only a few, maybe only a dozen or so (per plant). A couple of times I've had plants that put on plenty of early growth, but then have stalled. I suspect it was Red Spider Mite. Live and learn :)

We're overwintering some of our plants and hope they will survive the cold (in a heated propagator) and the bugs.

Last year was an exceptionally fruitful one. We now grow mainly Shiney Hybrids and they produced 50 - 100 fruit per plant with the plants not growing higher than 9" from the pots.

A couple of other varieties of plants (all donated to us) also did well but not more than 20 - 3- to a plant. The one fantastic exception to this was the Naga plant that Loli gave me. It produced 71 large fruit :hapydancsmil: and they were very tasty - and HOT. :)

We shall be sowing the Naga seeds in two week's time but the Shiney Hybrids have made 100% germination and produced 60 plants. We've yet to see how many survive to growing big enough for their own pots.

The Naga plant has produced a little problem for us. The local Asian food warehouse (they provide for all the Indian restaurants) have asked me to grow the plants for them so that they can sell them for the personal use of their customers and all the money will go to our charity. We had been providing the chillies for the owner and some of his staff at one of his restaurants and they said they were the best Nagas they've ever had.

So we're under pressure to get the plants grown. :hate-shocked:

                  I've already sown:

Patio Sizzle, 50mm high in cell trays
Draky, seedlings almost ready to transplant into cell trays
                  Hungarian Hot Wax, ditto

                  Sowing imminently:

Cayenne, Ring of Fire, Explosive Ember, Bolivian Rainbow, Little Elf &
                  Numex Twilight.

Also got Mini Red sweet peppers (assume it's OK to have all Capsicums here?) about 75mm high in pots (also got some more at seedling stage), and a couple of full size varieties about to be sown.

I have just planted my Chilli seeds yesterday after a 24 hour soak . They are now at the back off the hot water tank cupboard until they germinate . Then they go under the grow lights until pricking out time.
I am growing Patio Fire a small bush type Chilli , which look very much like the Shiney Hybrids.
Also growing Tokyo Hot F1 which is a Cayenne type chilli , about 30,00 scoville , that is about my limit !

We don't soak ours but they get the equivalent of being soaked.

They get put on wet kitchen paper in our seed sprouter. :blue thumb:
