The ruling as to whether the OFT can investigate the unfairness of charges has come in on the side of the banks.

Personally, I am not surprised, but I am disgusted. The Office of FAIR trading cannot investigate whether or not bank charges are UNFAIR?

    Beggars belief.

Anyone fancy opening the stuffed mattress banking group?

What? Surely you don't think for even a second that perhaps the lawyers involved were in any way influenced by the banks? I mean surely the lawyers representing the banks would neither have shares in the banks nor take any kind of sweeteners.

I've made it a rule for many years to never owe anyone anything, particularly banks.

Occasionally I move investment money through my current account, if there's a fair size balance when you call in, they try to offer you investment accounts, but the rates are always rubbish. As it's often the same girl, she smiles and says "I have to ask" and I reply with a smile and say "Consider it asked and answered."
A month ago I had to go in because I had a problem with an internet account.
While I was there the woman (not on the counter) dealing with it pulled up my account on her computer and noticed I'd just moved some money from an investment account through my current account and into an ISA but not with them, she actually started to try to get me to take it out and put it with them. I had to tell her to concentrate on the problem they'd caused and not interfere with my investments.

When my wife went into her bank recently , she was approached whilst in the queue by a bank saleswoman, about mortgages. She replied; "Do you think I want to be messing about with a mortgage at my age?" The woman scuttled awway.

I accept years ago I used to have car loans and I once had a mortgage. But I never paid silly rates of interest.
I keep no more in my current account than I need and always clear my card balance each month. I pay it by internet transfer (Barclaycard to my Barclays bank account) on the due date. Non of this paying several days before.

I did a month ago, underpay my card balance by accidently transposing two figures. When I saw the interest charge I phoned them up and told them to take it off if they wanted me to stay with them, before they had a chance to say they wouldn't. But they did try to sell me freakin' card insurance while I was on the phone.

My wife and I at our age are now in "spend mode."
    We hate banks.

Another thing that "grinds my gears" is that if you have a payment due, that falls on a Sunday they take it out of your account on Friday. If you've a credit due on a Saturday, you don't get it until Monday.
Since when did computers get week-ends off?
