We saw some hawk-type bird being chased by a flock of smaller birds this afternoon and that were screeching at the "hawk".

Crows, Rooks or Jackdaws? on to a Buzzard or Eagle? Wingspan and shape probably not right for an Eagle and the other three don't screech so I could be wrong on both counts. Sorry Kedi, not much help. [IMG]

I've seen crows attacking a buzzard before.

Round our town you will hear and see a flock of jackdaws mocking something, then a buzzard will fly out of a tree to be followed by them. I have heard of a buzzard catching crows if they take it by surprise while the crow is on the ground. Crows are too aerobatic to be caught in the air.

Yes, it is probably a buzzard or hawk, we don't have eagles here, but I have seen the buzzard/hawk now and then, gliding or hovering but too high to recognize.

Since the flock was not actually croaking like crows do, we are not sure what they could be. We do have lots of crows here so perhaps they would call differently when after a raptor?

It was very interesting to watch, especially since the hunted wasn't in any hurry to escape from the hunters. Was he teasing them?
