Went there on Monday to have a filling fixed, ended up getting the usual gum deadening injections before the drilling started.
Anyway I've never had such a painful injection, it was agony.

Anyway here I am 48 hours later and the side of my tongue is still numb.
Never had that before, it usually wears off after a couple of hours.

Anyone else had similar problems regarding this kind of thing lasting longer than expected?

    You poor thing Pete:sad:

Should have dissipated by now?? Sounds like they injected straight into the nerve instead of the tissue around it.

I've got the opposite problem, being ginger, anesthetics don't work on us so well, took 2 goes last time I had a tooth out, and the stuff still didn't work, but i'd had enough by then & just let him pull the tooth to get it over with.

I dropped to the floor afterwards with the pain mind.:thud:

    Hiya Pete

I've had the same dentist here for six or more years. He's a young Portuguese/German guy whose father and wife are also dentists. Exceptional with all the latest technology. I've had him remove all my metal fillings and replace with white enamel over the years at about €70 per tooth. He usually doesn't give me injections as I seem to be oblivious to pain ... :heehee: But I must say my last visit a couple of months ago where the real tooth outside siding went which holds the filling in and I asked him to just build up the side with enamel was uncomfortable for several days. I didn't have/need an injection but what hurt was the 'cage' he put around the tooth for the build up and it digs into the gum. All went well and it cost €75 but my gum was very sore for several days, something I have not encountered before ... and I bit the side of my tongue for some reason even though it was not numbed ... :hate-shocked:

I sympathise with you ... xx

Edit: Just read Zigs' post ... what does ginger have to do with it as I have never heard this before ... I am strawberry blonde (close but no cigar ...) ...

      Thanks for the sympathy Zigs:snork:
Somehow, I thought I might just get a collection of dentist type horror stories.

My main reason for asking is to find out if they might have killed something off that is not likely to come back.

Ha, going back to hair colour ... when I had a very major op in 1986 the anaethetist had to wake me to put me to sleep as I fell asleep on the count backwards of eight from ten or some such silly thing ... I was very sick after the op from the anaesthetic ... :thud:

Pete, call your dental surgery tomorrow and explain. There's always a danger that you will get misinformation on a gardening any website and the very best advice would be to go back to the professionals.

On the bright side ... you could now eat a Scotch Bonnet (but only on *that* side of your mouth)

Pete, I agree, it sounds like the injection went into a nerve. Many years ago I had my impacted wisdom teeth out and I was warned it would give me nerve damage, possibly permanently. However, the nerves and numbness disappeared but it took nine months. Yours won't take anywhere near that long and should only be a temporary problem, but it would be wise to check with the dentist. :)

When I had to have a tooth capped, (I'm a natural mousy-mid brown), the dentist remarked that my natural tooth colouring had a "reddish" tinge to it. Now, my grandmother was a pure redhead who was known all her life as Poppy because of it. I came to the conclusion that the "ginger" dna can take a multiple of forms; what doesn't come out in the hair colour can be generated in other areas. Of course, that is just my personal theory based on nothing more than subjective thought processes :heehee:; in other words, hair colour alone may not be the *only* determinant, hence why apparently "ginger hair" variations may not be conclusive, per se.

When I gave birth to my eldest son, in a well known and respected East End hospital, the nurses noted that the race with the lowest pain threshold was in fact, the Asian race (and they're not reknown for being 'ginger'!) ;)

Had about 5 injections in my mouth in September. Even a few at the front because it wasn't numbing me at all.. lasted about 8 hours probably.
