i was in the garden, this evening ,just admiring the back garden, almost in full bloom, then i noticed the bees,
(OR THE LACK OF THEM!!) they were few and far between.the bees that i did see were so small!!.the second was what has happened to the butterfly??.i have seen about four this year, and the third thing i noticed, i have about 20 pots of petunias which two days ago where like prize flowers, fading overnight to poor sagging ,drooping blooms. on the petunias, i have noticed an infestation of green fly/black fly.i have these same flowers at the rear of the garden and they are still going strong(,no infestation).
its getting like a guessing game in gardening today.
to close .i have just removed a winter pansy ,which had a head like a (FIST),FROM A HANGING BASKET!!..i better close now
( AND STAND GUARD OVER THE PETUNIAS IN THE BACK GARDEN!!!!.).

There have been plenty of butterflys around us, mostly Cabbage White so far. There were plenty of bees but since this heatwave there have hardly been any and my runner beans are not setting any more. I'm hoping they will be back when it cools down a bit.

Bee population seem ok, but a shortage of butterflies. Except for the robust gabbage white!

I haven't seen any less bees this year-in fact there have been more in the garden and a lot of different types too. Hoverflies, butterflies-although I haven't seen a great deal of those very blue ones-(forget which name). And although some people appear to be having a large aphid issue I do have some but my garden is not infested. Good year so far-not enough ladybirds though perhaps-but even those I have seen the larvae of.

I just found this thread, and its funny, people over in my neck of the woods, are all saying that we have more Bee's then normal, and they appear to be fatter too.

HI LOLLIPOP, you are lucky where you live .the weather up here is that changeable,we can have all the seasons in one day,in the central belt in SCOTLAND.and having an oil refinery on our door step does not help..at the moment all i can see is BLACK skies.
