My decking was never properly sealed and as it is much used by me and various animals it is quite mucky. I don't want to colour it but can anyone recommend seal or other treatment that will protect it and stop mud getting trodden in?
It also gets stained by the many leaves which fall on it in winter...

Try pressure spraying it to get the cr*p off it, then if you must treat it use deck oil, or a transparent polyurethane sealant. Check out Deck Supply Co in London. They have a website - Google!

Thanks Jazid, I don't want to treat it to colour it but it takes me about 3-4 hours hard scrubbing to get it clean, and I thought sealing might keep it in better nick as well.
    Will go and google. [IMG]

Those little pressure sprayers from Homebase, B&Q, etc cost about £40 now and last a few years. They take the hard work out of decking maintenance and I think are rather good fun to use (this could be a boy thing). The dogs of either sex (if you have any) will certainly agree with me!!

Today the decks were pressure washed for me with a very posh German machine [Karsch] . I was quite carried away with delight at its' efficiency and persuaded poor Bryan to do the greenhouse, the swinging seat [very much in need of renovation], the crazy paving and an old rabbit hutch! Definitely not a boy thing!
Very messy and surprisingly hard work but so much better than scrubbing with a broom, and because it's a high pressure one doesn't use tons of water. I want one! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Now hoping the rain holds off tomorrow so that I can seal all the lovely clean wood. Off to buy Sadolins in the morning.
