The EU food standards

    Any thoughts, the EU are so perfect about food standards unyet we are buying chicken from Poland laced with antibiotics and its OK?
    They dont seem to have the high food standards that they like to make out.

    There was all those problems regarding chlorinated chicken from the US some time ago, and that is probably not as dangerous as this Polish stuff that we are letting into our food standards.

      Food Standards is only for them who go by the rules and are policed, many things go on when backs are turned, even in this country

        If only we were a part of it and could complain with some authority about the practice. As it is we'll just have to sit in our sunlit uplands and eat human antibiotic laced polish chicken. :spinning:

          From info received there are more Poles in the East Midlands than in Poland, so they're just ensuring that they've got the food they're used to :biggrin:

              Simple - ban it yourself, just veto any chicken product that states its uses polish chicken, which in this case seem to be the frozen breaded chicken nugget type of products from some supermarkets as mentioned on tv.

              Plenty of chicken meat products bearing GB grown labels which should be a lot safer.

              Expect the US chickens are as full of antibiotics and growth hormones as their beef products, let alone all their chlorine washing.

                It doesn't bother me personally other than from a political point of view.

                Over use of antibiotics is becoming a problem not for animals only, but humans as well and people are eating this stuff.
                I was under the impression that EU standards were the best in the world, or that is what we are led to believe by Brussels and the reason for all the problems regarding certain food items being pretty much banned from entering N.I. from the UK.

                You have to be a bit careful about banning everything from outside, though, don't you? Unless you're in a position to produce higher-quality stuff yourselves. That includes the workforce to process it.

                    I'm not convinced that we should ban it as @ricky101 says we have a choice if we buy it, but a level playing field with the EU would be the better way to go, especially where N.I. is concerned.
                    How many years was it that France banned British beef after the mad cow disease was sorted.

                    I only eat UK produced meat/chicken but don't know whether it has been produced without noxious chemicals etc. I don't think having these two horns growing out of my head has anything to do with it.

                      You may have eaten something that is not quite right ie some one bending the rules, know of a few where people have done naughty things and still put in into food chain

                      Farmer was to spray for xxxx asp with xxxx (which you can only use once in a havest year), on the advice from agronomist, farmer didn't spray asp but left it, weather then not right for spraying but he did it, month later, agronomist checks field xxxx is still there, question farmer about what and when he sprayed, so agronomist say to spray again with what he had left with another chemicle for something else which then should do both but the agronomist say you won't get any paper work for the 2nd spraying for xxxx for your reconds as it's only to be used once!!!

                      Even organic you are not always free from chemicals, but can't say what had happen

                      I have to say there are people that do thing properly but tis the bad one's that make it bad for every on else

                        At leased now you will find it hard to get antibiotic in milk uk, as now every farm has a sample taken by the lorry every time it collects milk, i've done some runs on a milk tanker back then farms were sample/test 4 times in a month, if farmer had let antibiotic in to the tank he/she would let you know not to collect but you sometimes get 1 that would try to let you collected it, but it is a close call with some, farmer would be hiding close by and they will look into back of lorry for test box with the sample bottles, if they see that they will apear from nowhere!! and stop you but if they don't see box you will collect the milk then next day we will be doing a sample/test to find who had the antibiotic's and farmer will make sure he/she don't put any in that day, back then it would be the diary that footed the bill but now if farmer does it he/she will foot the bill for the whole tanker and some will be artic's so now it as safe from antibiotics as it can be

                          I suspect that that was just good old, plain protectionism. If the majority of French ever discover what un-matured crap they've always been fobbed off with, the bottom will fall out of the home-grown beef industry overnight. But that's not a problem because our Pres wants us all to eat lentils instead anyway :sad:
