Is anyone watching Giles and Sue do The Good Life?

We had it on planner and watched it tonight, I loved it!

I've not been watching it, Victoria, but if it's as entertaining as the programme where they gorge themselves, whilst in period dress, in different eras, then it must be great fun :)

I haven't seen it either Victoria, I did watch one or two of those ones Aaron mentioned - they are both very entertaining characters so it sounds interesting.

I really recommend it if you can catch it on iplayer - I laughed out loud the whole way through.

Giles is pretty useless, and Sue is sharp a razor and takes to everything with ease! It's not the thing to watch if you really want to learn something, but most of us here love to grow our own things, and many of us have hens etc. I do find Sue's sense of humour so funny. I think she is so under-used on TV - but then she isn't dumb and dressed like a Barbie doll so she doesn't suit today penchant for 'brain dead tv'!

It is just the kind of program you don't get very often, something fun that makes you laugh, but celebrates the simple things in life. I love it!

I'll try and watch it Victoria, I agree with you about Sue she has a great sense of humour and is a real tonic compared to the run of the mill presenters picked for their good looks rather than their brains. I wonder if Giles plays up the gormless male sterotype or is he really like that, anyway together they are a watchable team.

I think there's an element of him playing it up - and to be honest I just wonder how much it is down to never having needed to roll his sleeves up and get on with the dirty work.

I like them both - you're right, they are great together!

I watched last night's episode. To begin with I found it irritating, the scenes are obviously set up with Sue and Giles doing very little themselves, like on the allotment, their broad beans were decimated by blackfly then they didn't visit for weeks before a miracule happened and they had a decent crop :skp:. Also the constant stream of 'experts' dishing out advice was annoying. In the end I did warm to them, they weren't taking the mickey out of the Grow Your Own brigade, I think they were showing how difficult it is and lots of planning and hard work are needed. I'll watch it again if I remember!

Only one more episode I think John ... set it to record the series on SkyPlus eh? or online at Sky if you have Sky Plus and have set up to be able to set recordings remotely :thumb:

I think it s was quite realistic of how novices might actually wind up - good intentions, but little time - or maybe not actually enough interest / commitment. Lots of New Hobbies probably go that way!

I get the feeling they are making fun of the people who see keeping livestock and growing your own food as 'the latest must-have accessory'.

I think they are so funny, and the idea of walking goats around the local park is ridiculously brilliant! I love the fact that people try to teach them things and they are like naughty school kids. I wonder if the 'experts' miss the point though and forget to see the humour in the show. I don't think it is out to teach you anything at all, other than how much hard work and dedication is involved in self sufficiency. I think the main aim is to entertain. And for me, it ticks all the boxes!
