While driving south on our way to the Algarve, we stopped over in the Bassin d´Arcachon, France. In la Teste-de-Buch is the largest dune in Europe, the Great Dune of Pyla. It is truly a sight to see and we both climbed up it to see the magnificient view from the top.

It looks like a massive snow drift in the trees .... how strange. I wonder how it got there?

Thats some massive dune, I've never heard of it either, but presume its been around a long time.

Are those fences an attempt to slowdown its movement, if so they dont appear to be working.:)

I've not read the links yet, but it must say something about how it got there, how long it has been there, ..........

I think the fences are to stop people from rolling, sliding or falling down. I don't think they were on the other side, but then I didn't manage to get that far to look myself.

Here is another pic that DAG edited and shows a view of the sea from the top -

:) How interesting Kedi, the sand against the green foliage is quite awesome......................

Didn't think that fence would hold much sand back lol.

    Yeah Ok mate.:thmb:

Sort of thinking along the lines of a snow fence, but for sand.
