I always think of the Lake District as one big garden with an enormous variety of plantings, hard landscaping and water features. To add to that there are historic buildings, pretty villages and good places to eat.

Here is a picture of well designed planting with hard landscaping by 'The Big Landscaper'
    It is part of Borrowdale

and a couple of water features.

Bassenthwaite Lake (the only lake in the Lake District)

Shiney. You will have to stop this or else I shall be envious of you when you go away.

Still haven't seen the one of you yet though. [IMG] [IMG]

Have you ever been to Scotland? Beautiful place. Our favourite is the Island Of Mull.

The Orkneys is also nice as is Skye and the Western Isles.

Also done Arran and Plockton where they filmed Hamish Macbeth I think the programme was called...Just missed out on being a film extra by one day.It could have been the making of me.
Yet another "Chaplin" making it big.

Thanks for your kind words Babes. When I get a chance I'll start my holiday photo thread on 'Muppets'.

Kandy, yes we have toured Scotland a few times. Inverewe Gardens are really worth a visit - unless it has changed since we went there.

We were lucky enough to be on the set when they were filming the first 'Highlander' film at Eileen Donan Castle. They actually built the ancient village in the castle ar park on the shore of the loch.

I thought you would appreciate the photo of Bassenthwaite.

Shiney.Went to Inverewe gardens, two years ago.We had been to that one in the early Eighties.

Our original Lake district photos are on slides, which was cheaper way back then. The last time we were on Mull,we stayed in a cottage overlooking the ruins of Aros Castle.Very romantic.

Yes I do appreciate the photo of Bassenthwaite, now we can all see where you are going.A most beautiful place...a bit like me...

    Hi Fran

Thanks. Where did you work and what are your favourite places?

Mrs shiney and I love the place. I take groups of people walking up there once or twice a year - but only friends nowadays. My book of easy walks sells fairly well but will never make me much money.

When I get around to setting my holiday thread up on 'Muppets' I shall post some more pics of the Lakes. Will probably have a separate thread for the Lakes.

I also love the Lake District very much.
and if any one wants to stay there for a special occasion,I can recommend The Inn On The Lake in Glenridding on the edge of Lake Ullswater, just at the bottom of the legendary Hellvelyn climb.
This was the view from our room.

    Lovely picture, roders.

Is that your back garden? :D :D :D

If anyone wants to see more of my pictures of the Lake District I have started a topic called 'shiney's Lake District' under 'Muppets'. I am putting them on there slowly but surely.
