    Hi there,

This week we popped to the lottie to find our runner beans have really grown, we had 3 beans which were 16 inches long.

Click here to see our Monster Runner beans

How are yours? do you have one to beat 16 inches? are yours small this year? or have all your plants diesn off without forming beans? we would like to know, pictures would also be great.

Other news this week is swedes forming, pumpkins galore, straberry runners and continuing harvests.

    Regards

My runner beans have grown really long, at least 12". I'm not sure I can beat 16" though. Well done.

Are they any good to eat when they are that long? I tend to be too impatient to let my beans grow to more than about 9 or 10" but i would've thought they got progressively tougher?

Quite right Claire. If it ain't good to eat it ain't good at all. (as long as its a veg that is.)

oh contrare, when beans get beyond eating length because they get too tough / stringy, they are then excellent for seed collection.

What's the maximum eating length d'you reckon then? I suspect I pick mine a bit soon which means a lower yield and more preparation I guess! They are delicious though.
