It was, but I don't know if that's partly because I was drunk, tired and cold at the time. I'd had some cans round a freind's house and the sun was just starting to rise as I left his house, so rather than go straight home I went for a long walk first.

It will be a misture of all three, but the impromptu walk often brings nice surprises-I cam across a gang ( if thats the right coll.noun) of wild rabbits once walking the long way round to home one very late night or early morning ( I too was a bit tired and emotional), they didn`t see me for a minute or two but they scattered away in the end.

Sorry Wiseoldowl. I forgot my manners for a second. I wasn't trying to compete, in fact quite the opposite, your picture is ace. I've tried to capture the moon but on my camera I just get a blurry blob. There is something about the full moon that stirs something primeval in us all, even in this modern age of industry and technology. You pic inspired me to dig out my sunrise pic because I think there is something really powerful and humbling about natural phenonoma.

Dusk and dawn are amazing times of the day. You see all sorts that you wouldn't normally see, and have the added advantage that there is often nobody else about. I don't know about anyone else but on the rare occasions when I'm out and about at dawn, I feel really alive and charged up. Maybe its the light, maybe the cool air, maybe the peace and quiet. Maybe a combination of these and so much more.

Woo that is a great shot.

Funnily enough I got out of bed about 4.00 am and the moon
looked so clear but my camera batteries were dead so couldn't
try a shot - it wouldn't have been as good though. Thanks for
    sharing.

Super pic Woo! It inspired me to have a try myself I took about 20 pics with varying exposures try to get one about right. I'll have to have another crack at it when we get another clear night. I selected the best of a pretty iffy bunch and then tried a bit of HDR in an attempt to get a bit more detail.

Did you rotate the photo or have your camera at a slightly odd angle? The reason I ask is that "Tycho" - the crater with the lines radiating from it is a good few degress clockwise from where I can see it. I was wondering if your view of the moon was different from mine up here - but I don't think it can be.
Here's a link to a pretty good lunar map -
