Meandering through the hot houses in Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Gardens, I came across this flower - the most excuisite flower I have ever laid my eyes upon (and there are some very pretty flowers out there!)

If I had not touched it for myself, I wouldn't have believed it was real! There was no tag, and nobody about to ask.

The bloom itself would be somewhere between a side and dinner plat sized, the leaves somewhat bigger. It grew from the pond in the humid zone (though it may have been in a pot in the pond - or a pot raised above the pond.

Anyone have any idea the name of this beauty?

No idea JarBax but what a beauty! The last two shots are brilliant, and it does look almost unreal. Well done, and thanks for sharing with us.

Walnut - I tried googling 'lotus giganticus plasticus'!!! Not even when it came up blank did it click! Infact, it wasn't until this afternoon that the did the penny drop,. and I had to have a giggle as my gullability struck again! No idea why I'm letting on! [IMG]

Brilliant Pete and Fonzie - thankyou! A Nelumbo it is! I am thrilled, as it is also known as a 'sacred lotus' - now I know why it is so revered by budhists!
