Ive spotted The New Royal Horticultural Society Dictionary of Gardening 4 volume set for £70 and was wondering if it was worth it? and whether or not thats good value for the money...as I've seen the 4 volume set on amazon for just under £200 also does anyone own it? and do they think that there are any similar books which are better?:cnfs:

    Thanks in advance:thmb:

Forgot to mention that it's the 1992 edition although I believe there is a much more recent elusive edition. Does anyone know if the content has changed much?

I have the RHS encyclopedia of garden plants which cost me £70.00 and a swear by it. It is very informative and tells you everything you need to know, such as what plant where, growing habits etc. I use it all the time.:thumb:

Thanks Garden master, the one I saw was on eBay and I asked the seller a question about the item and the price suddenly jumped to £20.00 more with £10 extra postage on a 'Buy It Now' item! seemingly over nights00k

So I think I will save up and go with a the newer 1999 paperback edition on amazon for £170[IMG]

I got the RHS encyclopedia of plants & flowers (4th edition, 2006) from a book club at work, rrp £70, I got it for 15!! It is a truly awesome reference. Also picked up a couple of older gardening books from charity shops; they've covered everything from planning the garden to care and maintenance and plant husbandry.

Sorry it appears reading through the posts that were confusing two different RHS books...
The book I'm referring to is the 'The New RHS Dictionary of Gardening (4 Volumes) (Paperback)'.

Although I managed to convince my dad to shell out £40.00 for the 'RHS A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants' from amazon which arrives tomorrow cant wait:luv: also is there much point in having this and the 'RHS Encyclopedia of Plants and Flowers' or not?

Sorry again about the confusion they have so many similarly titled books:(

Well on a separate note my copy of 'The RHS A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants' arrived today so Ive been pouring over it all this morning (Haven't been very well..so I didn't manage to make it to college :() the new edition is definitely a vast improvement over my old 1996 edition much more informative and better presented, the only thing I didn't like was the way the book was binded it seemed much more flimsy than my other RHS books:scratch: but still an excellent book also if your thinking of getting this book I would recommend buying protective dust jackets as the set doesn't come with any (unlike the ones on show at waterstones:mad:)

I got my dust jackets from here:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=230281336862

Also my amazon review should be up within 48hours so if you'd care to take a look you can find it on the 'The RHS A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants' page
