Yep. You heard correct. For 10 years now I have kept fancy rats. Fancy is the term used for rats that are domesticated, not wild.

My rattery name is The Rats of Redwall, after the popular childrens books. My prefix for rats bred by myself is Redwall. [IMG]

I have and still keep rescue rats, these being rats that have been released to the wild and picked up as strays, badly treated by previous owners, etc. I also keep show rats from other breeders and I breed a line towards a variety. Variety is the term used for different 'breeds'.

I breed for Wheatern Burmese, these gorgeous babies:

Anyway, I figured this should come under hobbies as apposed to just pets, as i do show and breed as well.

And just for good measure heres a pic of me [on the right] judging a class at a recent National Fancy Rat Society Show.

I have a litter due at the beginning of December, so lots of baby pics will be due! :D

I remember watching a film called Willard (I think) about a guy getting revenge on people for something using his pet rats. Anyone else seen it?

    Rings a vague bell, Strongy....

We had a couple of rats when my kids were young - they were great! They didn't rush around like mice and gerbils, but liked to snuggle in under your jumper, and drape themselves round your neck like a nice warm collar! :D

Our family are all definitely fancy-rat fans!

Wow i go away for 3 days and rat PR goes through the roof! :D

miraflores and Rosa, those are beautiful drawings and if you dont mind i'd love to print them up and put them on my rat stuff wall? [IMG] So lovely! And Platty made me a christmas card featuring myself and Hero! All so lovely! So exciting for me!

Webmaster, that rat would likely get disqualified for the presense of clothes and being caught smoking in the toilets! XD

I've not read the book by James Herbert but i've ordered it for the library! Just need to get around to actually reading it now.
Ditto to Willard, honestly. And i work in a dvd rental store!

I loved that article about the search rats. Really does them a bit of well deserved glory! They are so incredibly intelligent, i'll have to post my videos of Morgan unlocking her cage and Hero stock piling cotton reels!

Darling Saffy is here now, the rat having the litter for me, and shes beginning to look rather like shes swallowed an orange. :D
I'll get some photos tonight. By 5 days time she'll look like shes upgraded to tennis ball, and in 8 days time she'll give birth!

    I call photo diary! :D

She is at 2 weeks tomorrow, and if shes anything to go by her babies are going to be beautiful, cheeky and friendly!

I'm expecting Black Eyed Siamese, Red Eyed Siamese, Burmese, Agouti Burmese -[needed! Fingers crossed!], Black, Agouti, with possibilities of dumbo ears, and if sire carries Russian Blue, we'll get Russian blue related varieties as well!
