The 'Toyota' licence

This was overheard in a car sales room by my brother just last week;

Brother settles down in a chair close to a nearby desk to wait for the salesman who is presently attending to a 30-ish year old couple from Hong Kong. Husband is standing back behind wife who is obviously the chief negotiator.

Conversation goes as follows:

Salesman: Which car would you like to test drive, madam?
Chinese lady states choice
SM: Do you have a driving licence, madam?
CL produces licence
SM: This is a Hong Kong licence, madam. How long have you been in the UK?
CL: One year
SM: You can only drive in the UK on your Hong Kong licence for six months. After that you must take a driving test. Do you intend to take a driving test?
CL: No
SM: Then I am afraid you cannot test drive one of our cars without a valid driving licence, madam.
CL: It's not for me, it's for my husband.
SM: (wearily) Madam, does your husband have a valid UK driving licence?
CL: No .... but he's got a Toyota!
