Last couple of weeks have seen me doing some serious decluttering. Included was my old desk top which, I discovered, I hadn't switched on for over a year! In which case I presumed it to be pretty clear I didn't really need it any more! So I had the hard drive professionally wiped and put everything in the boot to take to the dump - I mean Civic Amenity Point!. Everything that is except the monitor - the old fashioned type that was B-I-G!

Well, when I moved in (2000) I carried that thing upstairs myself but when I tried to pick it up, I couldn't even lift it a mm off the desk top! Geeeeze! No fair! Why can't I do that - could it be because I am 13 years older and my muscles are nothing but flabby flab?!

Had to get next door's son to come round and fetch it down for me.

    So shaming!

The one thing that has been constant in my life into ageing is that I'm still as stupid now as I was when 15 years old, so some things never change!!:hate-shocked::heehee:

It's all about 'perspective' though, Daisees; now, I know people of my own age, who have lived hard, played hard and they are looking (and feeling!) a good ten years older than I am. Equally, I know people of my age who are fitter, stronger and look younger than I do (how *dare* they! :nonofinger: :heehee: ).

I can only view my physical, mental, emotional state based on my own abilities at any point in time. So, I choose to train myself in "positive" thoughts.

Ok, so you struggled (physically) to lift that monitor and that meant you needed to turn to someone younger, stronger. But, could that younger, stronger, neighbours son manage to do *other* things that you may continue to be proficient in? I'm sure you'll think of something. And therein lies the balance of life: no shame in that, at all! What we lose on the swings, we make up for in the roundabouts ;)

You guys are a hoot! But it's okay, I'm not in a slough of despond or anything! I just thought it was one of those ironic (therefore funny) curves life throws you from time to time! Nice to know I'm not alone in this though.

And Woo, I loved your philosophy that "it just means you haven't died young"! That is an awesome idea! :imphrt:

Never forget the old Chinese proverb that translates as:-

When you're old, if you wake up without any aches and pains - you're dead!!!

As Woo said, in slightly different words, don't worry about getting old, just think of the alternative!

One of the advantages of getting older: just renewed my car insurance and couldn't believe how much it has gone down in price. (Yes, same car, same level of cover etc.).
