I have a pond in a wildish area and has been let go for three or four years, consequently the reeds have multiplied and have virtually taken over. Without the use of chemicals and without having to get in to manually pull them out...any suggestions to reduce their numbers by at least 50%

Sorry Amanita, but the only thing is to get in there with your wellies, or waders if the water's deep, and do it by hand. Make sure you wear tough gloves and even a pair of protective goggles as the reeds are bound to fight back. Sorry!

    In short No.

No easy solution but to get in with waders and remove them.

Thnaks for you wishes Amanita. If your "reeds" were Acorus Calumus (Sweet Flag), I could use them at Chelsea as a "strewing herb" for the floor! :hehe:
