We have one of the biggest Veterans' Parades here every year. This stall was collecting money for disabled Vets and Simon Weston was here in support (some may not remember him as a Gulf War casualty with horrific burns).

A young 'man' stooped low enough to steal the tin of money.
Our local paper says it all.

A day or two in the village stocks would be apt, if they ever manage to catch the lowlife.

Absolutely disgraceful. I'd love to be able to say I'm shocked, but unfortunately I can't. I don't know what's happened, there was a time when it could be taken for granted that even the lowest of the low had respect for those that risk (and in some cases gave) their lives for the country.

I thought he was a Falklands veteran. Didn't a grenade go off near him? Maggie Thatcher famously tried to prevent him or anyone else that was horrifically wounded from taking part in a victory parade, as she wanted to portray it as a flawless victory.

Yes, never understood theft. But sadly some elements of society feel that it's acceptable. These sort have always existed and probably always will :(

I believe Simon Weston was on the Sir Galahad when it was bombed during the Falklands War, hence the horrific burns he suffered.

[FONT=&quot]These people are scum lowlife scum. They should be put away for a minimum of 5 years. If they do it again then its 10 years. When they do get out posters with there picture and what they done should be posted everywhere where they live.

    They have no respect.

We have a lady in our area who sells things at the end of her front garden. All the proceeds go to our local Cancer Hospice. Someone even stole the "Honesty Box" that the proceeds are collected in. Unbelievable:(

    Sadly, a frequent ocurence.

Almost certainly a drug addict, taking a charity box presumably easier than the normal shoplifting.

What is needed is a zero tolerance aproach eg two minor crimes then on a third ocurense a 5 year sentence with no early parole.... the only way a messadge will get out to these scum is by tough sentencing.

PG. I'd like to think it was a junkie. But I don't live in that sort of area. ('though I have in years gone by). Just someone who could see some money for the taking. An example of the "money is the only important thing". :( An attitude brought on by a right-wing g'ment. "No such thing as society". Punishments won't make any difference. You have to change the values of a society:) Not an easy task:(
