Things you dont use anymore.

Was looking round the shed thinking of dumping some of the rubbish in there and came across so things I used in the past which you hardly ever think about these days.
Remember these.

 

That's the only reason you had a look, come on, come on, admit it.

 

I still use a chuck key for my corded drill, but mainly use the cordless drill now.

 

What are those things in the first photo?? As for the key....I still use them once I've tracked them down after a long hunt through various pockets, key hooks, handbags etc. I can honestly say that there's nothing in my shed that I don't use (eventually). Unlike OH's stash of every tool known to man or Lidl which currently decorates the garage

 

Right so for Noisette who is far too young to remember, the first item is a crook lock, used by loads of people in the 70s to stop the buggars driving your car away.

The key is an AA key to one of those funny boxes they used to have here and there, that you could use the phone inside and call them.

 

@pete are the crook locks the ones you feed through the steering wheel to incapacitate it? I remember they went obsolete when the crooks discovered the steering wheel is easy to saw through.

Still got some keys. Most of them I don't remember what they used to fit. Used to get rid of the "mysteries" by putting them on other people's key chains whe they weren't looking.

I still have a drill with a chuck key. It is a strong little sob!

Hmmm, maybe the keys would make a fun wind chime...

Yep. it went on the steering wheel and hooked on the clutch pedal.

Mmmmmm, that must have been one of the "squarest" motors of the time, I'd forgotten about them.

 

This brings back memories.. I bought a steering wheel crook lock when i was 18. I used it a few times on my s/h £200 vauxhall hb viva and then abandoned it.
I parked my car in roads shared with Jaguars, Granada's and MGB's etc and it dawned on me who the hell would prefer my rusting tin bath.
I spent what seemed ages seaching for my chuck key years ago. One great step forward was keyless chucks and Li ion rechargeable drills

 

I had a steering wheel lock that threads through the wheel. One night our local scum broke into the car, trying to steal it. Luckily I had a kill switch fitted in them days, so it would not start. They rummaged through the glove box and found the spare key for the lock. They stole my steering wheel lock

 

In those days, you took what you could get at 17. I progressed to a Capri fairly quickly

 

I desperately wanted one of them in the early 70s (or a Mustang). Went to the Mercury dealer (who sold them in the States) but I had to order it as they only had a mustard coloured one (yuk). Went to the Ford dealer and bought a Pinto Hatchback immediately (same wheel base). Had it till I moved back to the UK.

Later too i got a Capri, but only the 1.6 Gtx version. The 3 litre one must of been a screamer cos mine went well.
Best I ever drove back then though was a Rover 2000TC.
All leather and very reliable.

 

I had a 2.8 capri for about 10years during my boy racer days.
Loved the rear wheel drive.
Absolute nightmare on snow.
