You buy a climber from a nursery? Well i have just bought a honeysuckle and it has come with sticks and tape around it to guide growth, but it has a green rubber thing on the top. Do i take this off or leave it on? (hope my description is enough for you to know what i am on about!! hehe!)

The stake is to help it stay upright until you have it against a wall or trellis, where you can guide it by using strings, or patent clip things (scientific word there!!) - and the green rubber tip is to stop you poking your eye out when you fall over and land on it! :D Welcome back!! How's the raised bed going??

The green rubber thingy is to protect nursery staff and customers from the tops of the canes poking into their eyes. Personally I almost always remove the canes and the tape and the green thing and gently tie in the plant to the support up which I want it to climb.

    Green rubber thing? on what?
They sometimes put something on the top of the cane to stop you poking it in your eye.

Thanks!!! (felt like a right dunce then!)

The raised flower beds have still not arrived!!! (not happy) So, as i am sick of waiting and my fingers have been getting greener by the day, i decided to tackle the 'alleyway'
Don't laugh, our house isn't overlooked you see and there is a huge patch of grass that is covered by a plastic net. However, there is about a foot of soil that i can get access to. So i have, planted some beatufil pansies (purple and orange, simply gorgeous!) and some primroses, planted a honeysuckle in the middle and in between some sweet peas!!!
how's about that! it looks lovely and puts the rest of the alley to shame!!! Ha!

Probably the nicest alley in Liverpool! Certainly beats the one behind my old terrace house in Kenny! I could have taken lots of photos like Lisa's one out there - yuck!
