This weekend I.....

Arranged collection of the 15ft palm I bought off Ebay for £60. It took 4 guys about 1 hour to lift it up a 5ft wall (it was already in a huge pot) and drag/lift it round the front of the house and put it on my trailer. It was then tipped over so it lent on the back of my car (protected by towels around the trunks) and strapped down (very thoroughly) then a 40mph journey to my house trying to avoid any sharp corners and another hour or so of unloading and dragging and it's now at the end of my garden. It looks great. I'll try to post some pics.

Then Sunday I finished planting my bulbs in containers - don't know if they will work as it's very late/early but there are too many to waste. Had to make another trip to BnQ for more sand and compost (3rd 50L bag for these bulbs) and after that planted a few roses I had being stored in the garden. Since I wanted to plant some on the left border I tried digging that up and removing the decorative stones left by the last owner but there seems more stones than soil! I sieved the stones out for 1/2 hour or so but was making very little progress so left that job for another day.

To finish the day off I started clearing the attic out...

 

All that in one day! ...........You need to slow down a bit...:snz::snz:

This weekend you should rest, tired just reading it, the things we do for greenery!

 

I planted some late daff bulbs too - like you didn't want them to waste. I tried making a start on a two large drainage trenches but the ground was so solid I had my full weight on the spade (and I ain't no light weight :lol: trust me!) and the spade would only go in about 2" so I gave up and this morning telephoned for back up . . . I am just waiting for a great guy I know who does building type work (he did all the front off road parking and wall building last year for me). He has a mini-digger thing which will make very light work of it & leave me more time to get the ground ready instead.

 

Oh yes Also forgot on Sunday got the trailer out and got 10 2m lengths of 2x4 and 4 1x2m chipboard sheets to finish boarding the loft out...

Men8ifr, to buy a 5m, multistem, Cordyline would probably cost, retail, £150 to £200. Well done you.:gnthb:

 

Really?????s00k I regularly see these in the local paper or on wightbay for free or no more than £20-£30 because people buy them as small plants and dot expect them to get that big:p
they really are almost ten for a penny on the Island

Maybe I need to load the trailer up for a few trips top the Isle of Wight!! It's probably a long way at 40mph though. And my friends need a well earnt rest as well.

The Lady I bought it off said she paid £175 8 years ago plus delivery which I imagine was not cheap... and it only had the 2 palms then.

Why would people want to sell them? They look great - I only got this one because some-one was moving house and there was no possible way she could take it with her - a bit of a rare find I think...:gnthb:

 

The next question is should I plant it in the ground or not...

 

I sold this 3m,single stem Cordy for £200 about 7 years ago.




This 5m Phoenix canariensis went for £550 the same year.

In the ground the trunk will thicken up and it won't look so straggly
