Pic of one of the bamboos we transplanted this weekend. I grew this from a baby in another garden three years ago and moved it 'home' at last

This clever little birdie swoped down to grab the worms from freshly dug soil

A well transplated Bamboo, luckyboo. That must have been a well-planned exercise! [IMG]

And what a fat little birdie that is ... no seed required there. :D

I don't seem to have welcomed you to GC as you joined whilst I was busy away in the UK ... so welcome!

luckyboo ... what can I say. One of my cats is called Magic Sam but we call him Boo because he's afraid of his own shadow! and sometimes the phrase lucky Boo comes up!

Thanks for the welcome Lady of Leisure, and lovely to meet you! Your Magic Sam sounds too cute. I have no problem sharing my name with him [IMG]

Two bamboos were transplanted actually and this is a picture of the smaller one! It took two strong men to move the other. I directed :D .

    Well directed, I say! :D :D

Must say, I'm jealous as our Bamboo is new to us, only a few months and about 2 metres tall but only two tall canes! Dreaming ... but it's in a pot on our deck so it will never achieve your "bamboo status"! [IMG]

    Hi macleaf and marge.

Macleaf, this bamboo is called fargesia nitida nymphenburg. I like it because it's wispy, drapy and elegant. I'm really glad to have it in my garden now. I used to go visit it and the other one a Phyllostachys clumper. Neither is supposed to be invasive. I really hope not, as you can see it's quite close to the neighbour's garden. They were both in the ground for 3 years in the other place and surprising very well contained in the open ground.

We dug out almost the entire rootball. It was only about 1.5ft deep so didn't do it much damage (I hope). I was really pleasantly surprised.

It was also well watered prior to and after planting so I think that helped. Several of the new shoots flopped over/broke though in the process. OH dug the hole it's in - he's a neataholic and VERY precise! It looks very nice NOW but it's only been 3 days. I hope it catches soon as I'm quite attached to this one.

The bigger one is a toughie - was very difficult to move and won't be doing that again soon. I'll try to get a photo tomorrow if I can.

I like it luckyboo ... "whispy, drapy and elegant" ... sounds like a nymph (sorry, nymphenburg) to me!

I took progress pics of the bamboos this morning. I've noticed they've become somewhat droopy but that was expected.
