I am considering planting a couple of blackberries at the back of a mixed border to go up the fence. I just wondered if someone could tell me which of the thrones varieties are the best. Anyone have any pics of theirs?

Cant be a big help catztails, but ive recently bought a blackberry bush from homebase which is called a "waldo" variety which is relatively new but seems perfect, great big juicy fruit and is thornless as well, google it anyway and see if it does your job

doesnt grow overly big seems to be lower to the ground, time will tell but from reading it looks good, mines yet to flower

Catztail, I would suggest either Merton Thornless or Oregon Thornless, both are pretty good.:dbgrtmb:

I will check them out. I don't want anything that grows too insane.... There isn't going to be a lot of space for them. Am hoping for something I can sort of train up and along the fence? I know nothing about blackberries other than they are tasty!

For a small area then it has to be Oregon Thornless.:dbgrtmb:

Brilliant! What I am planning on doing is mixing fruit, veg and all sorts of things in one bed rather than keeping them separated. Companion planting of a sort.
