are RUINING my Hostas and Ferns! They keep landing/forraging on a shady/damp bit of garden I'm sooo proud of because it's getting better each season and the Hostas and Ferns are growing wonderfully. What can I do - apart from Shoot them (I don't have a gun...) to stop these PESTS please? I don't live in the Town but Rurally...

Farmers shoot them here and they use bird scarers locally, but the sleepless nights might put you off. As with other similar debates (for which Ive been chastised) your choice is personal and how you feel about these pests. Good luck with this internal debate

My dad used to put old knitting needles with the points up and fishing line in between his plants.

It's so annoying when you get pests ruining your plants.
They land in my cordilines sp? pecking away.

Hmmm in a way you are lucky. Doves are on the decline ..... BUT I cannot stand pigeons either. I could always send my Jackdaws and Carrion Crows over ?? They will bully your little problem hahahah

at least you can see it I have neighbours with cats you usually end up with it on your hands when they dump their load in your garden.
