I think it should have been done in June-July but can i tidy it up now?If yes, then do i just cut off the dead bits to the new growth?I havn`t dared touch it in case i kill it. [IMG]

Hi Elaine, I would be inclined to cut the dead stalks out now. Just to give it a tidy-up.

Hi Elaine. I agree with David. After all he is a professional and I am a professional drunk so...

Seriously, you can't hurt it and it certainly needs a tidy up before it comes into growth again.

As above just the dead flower shoots for now but you can get away with being more brutal once the sap starts rising and the worst frosts are over. You can cut away up to 1/3 of the living green wood without harming.

I work on a lifespan of four years for english lavender before they get replaced.

    Hi Elaine welcome back girl.

I have to agree with Pro Gard cut off the old flower stalks for now as that will at least make them an awful lot more neater and pleasing to the eye.

Sadly my own lavender got way out of hand after only a year..... so much for feeding the blooming things ended up saving a few and replanting the area with something else, but while they lasted the scent was enchanting and it was a pleasure walking down the garden path.Hel.xxx.
