Hi following my post in the new members introduction, as I said in there I am new to this so I am still learning, so please bear with me whilst I ome up to speed with a few things.

Whilst i realise it's a little late in the year to be planting some seeds, could anyone advise me of any internet resources which would give me some ideas of germination times for different seeds and their growing times to them producing fruit, vegetables etc.

I am mainly looking at things such as peppers, chilli's, melons, pomegranates, tomatoes etc, and lettuces outside thanks for any replys

Rick this site has some useful information for germinating seed of plants and trees, I am sure if you google any of the individual plants you refer to you will find the info you require.

With Chilli's and peppers, should you pinch them out to get bushy growth?

Hi again, Rick. Somehow I don't think you'll be getting many Pomegranites in your strangely spelt part of the world. There's an editing system here and if you look at the letters deleted from where you live ... say no more ...

You possibly can grow a Pomegranite tree but you won't get fruit ... it needs constant dry heat.

To pinch out you take the little side shoots coming from the base of a new side shoot and nip them out with your fingernails. At least, that's what I do! [IMG]

As far as whether you do this with chillies and peppers, someone else will advise you on that ... they are so cheap here I buy them fresh as and when required.

    Hi

I wasnt really expecting to get any fruit, but I heard that they make quite an attractive plant. Can't see any signs of life as yet though :(

Dwarf pomegranate makes a good flowering shrub in the UK Rick, trouble is you need to select the best plants, the seedlings are variable.
Its getting a bit late now to get them going.

Most of the plants you mention really need to be started in spring in a greenhouse or at least undercover. The exeption being lettuce perhaps, but that wont germinate at high temps, so that needs spring sowing as well.

    Thanks for the info Pete

That will explain why I dont have much sprouting at the moment. I figured it would be too late in the year to do too much however my chilli's & peppers seem to be coming up OK, the lettuces are growing quite well too. I planned on using this year just to mess around a little bit. I shall bring he chilli's indoors when it starts getting cooler.
