I've often wondered what tintinhull was like, apart from willow there isn't a great deal of colour, not what I would call a spring garden. Nice looking house though :blue thumb:

The dull weather probably didn't do it justice John. There was a nice woodland garden beyond.

      Wisteria?

I was taking a picture of the stone shingles on the roof & wondering if it used to be thatched.

Willow was chasing the tadpoles around in that one, place was full of them, it'll be like an explosion in a bedding spring factory when they come out.

Now I recon it was, but i'd expect to see a greater depth between the water tabeling and the roof covering, which makes me think that they'd renewed the roof timbers and given it a steeper pitch before replacing it with tiles.

        But thats just a guess.

I've got two reasons for thinking otherwise, but you're not going to find out until tomorrow, because one of those reasons is going to need a little back up research. Funnily, I've being reading about this place recently, in a work written in the 17th century. :WINK1:

I'll release your suspenders now Ziggy. :heehee: I couldn't locate in my book where I was reading about this, it doesn't have any chapters strangely. I couldn't 'research' what I'd already read because I couldn't find it and this old brain of mine doesn't retain everything anymore, so my second idea's out the window. That's a good excuse eh! :)

Meanwhile my first thought and reasoning was...........I presume the main house and the building with the Wisteria were built at the same time? That leads me to think that the house has never been thatched and the roof is original. Therefore, the tiles on the lower edge of the other building match those of the house and the upper tiles have been replaced at some point. So I don't think it was thatched previously. Obviously I haven't seen the inside of the building so my idea is just a guess. :)

Meanwhile, I bow to your better and vast knowledge of these things and wait to be shot down in flames! :heehee: :runforhills:
