    Hi,

I've got my Charlotte potatoes chitting in eggboxes on a window sill, but a couple have shrivelled and shrunk, with wrinkly skin and no chits. Are these perfect for the bin or worth planting out anyway?

    Cheers.

    Hi

i would put in the bin or try giving them a soak in water for two hours to make them swell up and if they dont chit in next two weeks bin them whats the point in planting them as they will only rot and may cause diseases or attract the slugs, did you buy them as seed potatoes or get from the supermarket ?

Are they in a warm place? If so they will use more "energy" sitting there chitting than if they are in a cooler place (but they need light)

Might help to spray them lightly with water now-and-again.

But as Daytona650said, if they don't buck up in a couple of weeks then chuck em. Wispering "compost heap" out of the corner of your mouth each time you walk past them might help?!!

IMHO - perfect for the bin.

I wouldn't take any chances. I'd bin them. You don't want them rotting in the ground and risking disease for the whole crop.

    Thanks all,
I did buy them as seed potatoes, from Marshalls. There's probably 25 good ones and 3 shrivelled so I'll bin them and save running the risk. I thought this would be the case, but it worse worth asking the question.

    Cheers.

    Talking of Charlottes,

All the seed bins were full in the nursery yesterday, except for the Charlotte one. Man alive, that must be a poplier variety.
