If you weren't pregnant, I could suggest a few, but sadly they are all out of the window. Is the pain from an abscess or is it just raw nerve where the air is getting in?

Sorry you're in pain CRG. The only thing I know for toothache is clove oil and you're already using that. The only thing I can suggest is to not let anything very hot or cold get near it. If you go outside, wrap a scarf around you to try to keep your face warm and stop the chilly wind getting to it. The thing that started mine off was hot cups of tea so I drank drinks at room temperature. Hope you can get your tooth sorted soon as toothache is the pits. :grphg:

Stopping smoking is definitely a good thing - whether it helps your toothache at the moment, I am less sure.

Have you seen a dentist recently? If not, get yourself to one as soon as you can - they might be able to put a temporary filling in for you without any anaesthetic to see you through? Or, you could try this stuff to put something temporary in yourself.

The only other things I can suggest are to keep warm and avoid draughts (consider wearing a scarf), avoid sugary foods and fizzy drinks, and avoid extremely cold foods (ice cream etc); in the past, I have managed to quell a toothache by having a really, really hot curry (toilet paper in the fridge type if you know what I mean), but that is by no means scientifically tested, and might be too much for you to try (thinking heartburn etc)

I'm not sure that being pregnant would mean you can't have a filling. More likely it just means your dentists needs to know, so he can consider what options are available. I could be wrong, I'm not an expert, but its worth asking them if you haven't already done so.

Apart from that, the only toothache temporary remedy I know is brandy. You don't swallow it, you just sip it in then sort of jiggle it around the painful site until it goes numb, then spit it out. I'm not sure I'd recommend that trick to someone who is pregnant though, because even though you don't have to actually drink the brandy, you still inevitably inhale quite a bit of it as vapour, which means some alcohol will make it into your blood stream.

I can't have filling because I have preg sickness and on a lot of med it's the same with getting my tat. They refuse to touch me. I've cleaned the hole with corsodyl and I've got clove oil. I've tried using temp fillings but it's on the gum line and hard to fill. It's gone a bluefish colour now so I think it's dying. I don't think I can do much more apart from keeping it clean. Thanks tho all for taking the time to reply.

Oh dear such a wearing pain.. Giving up smoking for all reasons is good because the smoke will irritate your tooth and could lead to infection..
I am very interested in natural remedies & we have a member of the family who has severe problems with prescribed drugs..

We have tried all of these & the garlic seems the most effective, but we are all different, but check out your allergies etc to these products first then maybe give these a try perhaps

I just want to throw in a word of caution regarding natural remedies. Natural doesn't automatically mean safe. For example, I know that there are some herbs that, in more than the tiniest doses, are strictly off limits to certain people.

For example, licorice is brilliant for any number of things, but, I'm told, it is off limits (in significant measures) to pregnant ladies because of how it alters your blood chemistry. Rosemary is another. It's not recommended for people with excessively high blood pressure, because it can actually raise BP further.

I know clove oil is often recommended for toothache, but I know nothing about it's effects on the blood chemistry, but these things are always worth checking.

Whenever I find a recommendation for a particular herbal remedy, I tend to google 'contraindications herbname' to see if anything comes up.

None of this is meant as negative, I just think its always wise to check.
