Hi all, I'm thinking of filling a couple of hanging baskets with herbs for use as a tisane. So far I've decided on: mint, thyme, fennel, corriander, lemon balm and basil. Does anyone know of any others that work well as a tisane?

Are you restricted to hanging baskets? - as all of the herbs you mention are quite unsuited to this environment. Mint & lemon balm need moisture retentantive soil, thyme needs dry-ish free draining soil and basil lots of moisture and warm, windless conditions. Herb fennel is deep rooted and grows to ove 1.5 metres. All are really best in a garden situation.

Im not restricted to hanging baskets, its just an experiment really to see if i can grow enough for various tisanes. I'll probably end up planting everything in the garden anyway. Just wanted to see if anyone else had the same idea and what is easy to grow and makes a good cuppa :)

    Salvia and monarda might work.

I thought you were talking about salvia divinorum for a moment there! Lol, I'm assuming you meant sage. I'll certainly give them a go. Thanks for the reply :)

You could also try growing Lippia citriodora, Lemon Verbena. It grows into a fairly large bush, so not suited to baskets, and requires some winter protection. Wonderful lemony barley sugar smell.

      Chamomile..
      Anise hyssop
      Monarda (bee balm/bergamot)
      Lemon grass

I think most herbs like to get their roots down to be honest, but Thyme likes to dry between waterings & sage doesn't like to be over-picked just take leaves..

Not sure if this is the right area to ask but here goes. i just bought a couple of established jasmine plants (jasminium beesianium) and I've read on the net that the flowers can be used as a tisane but I have my doubts. I didnt buy them with that in mind but it sounds interesting. Just wondered if anyone had any info.
