Current position of my tit box is just too exposed so want to move it, the best place is very close to the raised veg beds. Not sure if it would be wise to locate it there? Is there any argument for or against?

    Cheers

I guess that will depend how often you tend your veg beds, GG!!! I find that Tits always sit somewhere high and look for the all clear before flying to the Box. I would have thought it might be better to try and find a more suitable spot for it.:dunno::snork:

I thought this thread was going to be about something else entirely, based on the title:)

But yes, there was a study a while ago where they found that small birds case out things they're interested in from a safe distance, checking for ambush opportunities from cats and other predators before they'll use it. I.e. if it looks like a cat could sneak up on them, they wont use it.

Good title to get the staff's attention :snork:

I got 2 boxes, they only use the one round the back, one at the front is too busy for them.

Zigs, I'm such an innocent, didn't even think of it ...

I was being a bit selfish as I would have enjoyed having the box in plain sight so I could watch the comings and goings, but yes I think it would put them off. So I think I'll have to site it in the wooded bit which is quite sheltered and secluded then.

            Cheers

That sounds a good idea GG:dbgrtmb:...You could always put a couple of feeders in a more open spot so you'll still see them coming and going:dbgrtmb:

I have two boxes now on a North West facing wall about 2.5 metres up . Got no interest this year though . Last year I had one a bit higher on an ash tree , we got tits breeding in it . Sadly after a while the parent birds disappeared and the chicks perished.

Well, this is what my pair of Tits occupying the Arbour Roof Nest Box were doing before flying to the entrance of the nest.

Then when they were satisfied it was all clear they'd fly in

You should enter some of them in to a competition.

I'm not really a competitive person, Ian, and I just enjoy taking pics and if anyone else enjoys them then that's a bonus!:snork:

Thanks guys, if they return next year I'll probably "follow" them again for the day and see what pics we can get.:snork:
