Tender loving care - Which is how I treated several different batches of seeds, all in the same seed trays, watered lovingly, kept of of the brightest sun ....

Obsessive compulsive disorder - Which is how I ended up being looking after these things! A daily routine, come rain or shine, checking them for signs of ....well, anything.

    Weeks passes by .....

    Nothing ......

    Still nothing ......

I began to think that perhaps I had killed them all through, well I don't know through what, but I gave up on them.

I removed the little pockets of soil contining the seeds and mixed them into my tomato bed in the greenhouse, the extra soil would do no harm. I turned my attention to my 'main' plants grumbling that I would not buy any more seeds from a certain trader on ebay!!

'SL' - Sods Law. Less than a week later, I have seedlings all over my tomato bed!! Peppers, tomatoes and melons!!! I am going to leave them exactly where they are, I will deal with the 'jungle' day by day lol

So, in retrospect I have learnt a valuable lesson, on my journey to becoming a fully fledged gardner .... Don't cosset seeds! Treat em mean!!

Yes good point BUT BUT BUT .... they have ALL germinated within the last 3 days, where as before nothing had happened! :)

Lollipop is right. Some seeds take a long time.

I think seeds sometimes have to go through a whole series of hoops, before they qualify for germination. I once sowed a tray of Verbena rigida, and for several weeks nothing happened. I then put them in the fridge for a couple of weeks, but after removal nothing happened for weeks again. Then suddenly all 500 seeds germinated overnight, I couldn't believe it.

Temperature has a lot to do with it. And we often aren't aware of the temp drops at night which can hinder germination.

Two months ago I planted a row of brussels and another of beetroot. Was about to give up on them and suddenly - I has seedlings!

    Ya just never know!
