    Hi,

Aftre reading a couple of posts, and knowing I have forgotton a few things myself, just wondering if it would at all be possible for members to calender themselves to get certain things done, say yrly, mthly, wkly or on set dates.

You know like you can on your mobile-set event reminders and stuff. Prune roses today 01/02/09 etc,

Perhaps have pre programmed dates in like local flower shows nd stuff-Tatton Park is coming up so that is pre put in, and an option to remind me say a week before or a mth before.

If this is already possible, just give me a quick kick and point me in the right direction.

Lollipop why not start a blog? You could have a "page" for all the things you did in, say, 2008. And make a new page in 2009 - maybe copy over everything and have a "Done above, Not done below" dividing line - so in 2009 you had a list of dates from 2008 that you were working against, and have a history year-by-year. Plus we could all benefit :)

Or even just start a post here - you can go back and re-edit it (although I'm not sure if there is a time limit on re-editing a post)

You have one already. If you look in the nav bar at the top, you'll see the word 'calender'.

Click on that and it takes you to the forum calender

At the bottom of the page is a place where you can add events

This takes you to the familiar format of starting a thread

You need a title that is concise so it tells people what the post contains.

On the 1st September I have added the 50th anniversary of me starting my nursing career!

If you click on the arrows on the left (boxed in red) you can view things a week at a time

The contents of the calender are displayed at the bottom of the home page

Not exactly sue if one gets a personal prompt - I've added a date for tomorrow and see what happens! brb

No prompt, just appears in the list at the bottom of the home page. And in VERY tiny font. Get your magnifying glasses out!

Sorry folks. Just read this thread and I just feel that you are being a little unfair to kristen. Not sure if I got the vibes right but that's the way it reads.

    Right, I'll get me coat.

I thought both were really useful!

If I ever have time to start a blog, were do you go to make one?!?:) I think that sounds like a great idea - I always wish i'd written down somewhere what time I did something last yeatr! It would be good to know how far back you can edit a post.

I knew nothing of the calendar page - so that was good too!

'Hey - screen shot queen' - how do you do a screen shot? :D

"If I ever have time to start a blog, were do you go to make one"

There are a number of "main" places. I choose Wordpress because it allows both Blog "articles" and "Pages" - like a web site.

The main blogging site is "Blogger".

There are some comparison sites, comparing features, but as the Blog-space is free you could just open one, have a go, see what you think, and choose the one that suits you best. You can just cut & paste your "trial" text from one to another; you can set the Blogs to be private until you have made your choice, and you can delete your Blog if you decide not to process with the one on that site.

"I always wish i'd written down somewhere what time I did something last yeatr"

I photograph things, rather than keeping notes. The digital photo has a date / time associated, and then periodically I sift through them noting the date when such-and-such was in flower, or I dug-that-pond, or whatever.

"It would be good to know how far back you can edit a post"

On a blog you can edit the "posted date" to be whatever you like - so you could create a blog for the last year, say, retrospectively with correct dates on everything. You don't even have to create the entries in the correct chronological order, just set the date for each "article" and they will then display in date order.

(If you meant on this site I don't know the answer to that; my oldest post that I could find on here is a little over a month ago, and it still lets me edit that)

It took me around 6 hours to create my Blog, including changing my mind about layout a few times!, and discovering how the thing worked, as well as resizing photos and uploading them etc. I have only made minor amendments since I created it, so that [having a look at my blog] might give you an idea of how long it takes.

If you are reading this post in the future then the above may be a lie!

tweaky, i certainly didn't mean to be mean to kristen. If it came across like that I apologise, it was meant tongue in cheek cos I'm pretty useless with pc's.

kristen, can you keep a blog private all the time? I guess though, if you were going to do that, that you would just do a word document or something. There must be more advantages to 'blogging', what are they?

    cheers

Well yea. You can let people know about your blog so they can read it anytime....its sort of like a group thing really....instead of writing to one person at a time, you can share whatever you wish with lots of people.

Just a word of warning....Be careful on the detail you post about yourself and then just post away yea.:thumb:

I have just opened one, but not formulated what I wish to put on it yet.....no doubt I will get around to it sometime.:thumb:
