a strong wooden or metal post with a point at one end, driven into the ground to support a plant, form part of a fence, mark a boundary, etc.
    Hi All,

I thought may be a useful thread to refer too..

I stake Delphinium's but do I need to stake tall Salvias ?

As in the past I have bought plants not knowing !! and then getting caught out too late ...:spinning:

Sometimes tall plants growing near each other will hold each other up, or in between shrubs they'll have them for support. I do minimal staking.
I don't know about Salvias, I don't grow them, but I thought they were shrubby.

Salvias, I think it probably depends on the variety. I would suggest staking/supporting if it’s of the taller kind.

There will always be the plants that require a few twiggy sticks, which IMO look a lot better than actual stakes, stakes are for standard shrubs and formal plants I think.
