Can anyone tell me how you can tell when a tomatillo is ripe? I have some fruits now but I am not sure when to pick them............

The fruits can be picked early and used for salsas etc or left till the 'skins' are papery and the fruit poking out when they are edible as fruit. If you have the purple ones the colour develops as it gets older.
Mine are only tiny yet, I leave them until they are about plum sized, but then everything in my garden is late this year.
Once you've grown tomatillos you need never been without- they seed all over the place....

My daughter made the most delicious chutney with them using a green tomato recipe.

I usually leave mine until they burst through the husk. I don't have a problem with them seeding all over the place, as I have to grow them in the greenhouse, tooooo cold here for them outside unfortunatly, because they take up a huge amount of room. [IMG]
