I was round at my neighbour's today and he pointed out a window in his house, on the left were two tomato plants, on the right there was one fly today. "The toms can kill the flies" he claimed, his daughter had found something on the internet to back this up.
From my own experioence the flies in the conservatory, (we get swarms about this time in the summer) tend to be where there are no tomato plants. Anyone else noticed this?

I can't see how, tomatoes are very prone to whitefly infestations

Mine have got some blackfly and greenfly on them, fly killer sorts them out though.

I've had a chilli pepper infested with white fly, one every 2 mm and none on my tomatoes. Tonight there are around 8 black flies in the conservatory, and they are all on the opposite side to the tomatoes. There 10 flies on the kitchen window where there are no toms.
I'm not convinced by my neighbour, but the toms seem to repel the flies.

Different plants attract different pests, my chillis were attacked by Red Spider Mite, but didin't bother my cucumbers or toms.
