I planted these 3 weeks ago and no sign of anything yet. I have them in the conservatory. I got the seeds from T&M and they were not cheap. Should I leave them a while yet?

I sowed tomato seeds on the windowsill and covered the pots in plastic bags til they germinated. Took 5 or 6 days.
I have sown peppers too, but only a week ago and nothing yet

Tomato seed is usually pretty quick to germinate but sweet pepper, on the other hand can take weeks. I sowed sweet pepper and toms at the same time, put the trays in plastic bags in an airing cupboard. The toms seed germinated in about 4 days, I'm still waiting for the peppers after 4 weeks!

My Sweet Pepper ("Worldbeater") was sown on 15 Feb and germinated up in 21 days

My Gardeners Delight Toms sowed on 2nd Mar germinated in 6 days, and my Shirley and Ailsa Craig sown on 15 Feb were pricked out on 28 Feb.

All these were sown in pots in plastic bags on a West-facing windowsill (no propagator used)

My T&M Sweet Million Toms sown on 2nd Mar haven;t germinated - and I've now remembered that the seed, fresh packet last year, didn't germinate then either ...

      Anyways,

" I have them in the conservatory"

Is your conservatory heated? They need a minimum of about 20C to germinate. If not I suggest put them in plastic bags, seal, and stick them in the airing cupboard, check twice a day and the moment they are up put them back in the conservatory (may still be a bit cool in a cold conservatory, so a windowsill would be better until they are big enough to prick out into 3"-ish pots)

Kristen no my conservatory is not heated. I realised this after I had posted. I have sown more tomato seeds and will pop them in the hot press. The others were chilli peppers. I don't have any more of them but I'll put them in the heat and pray.

      Note to self..............Read instructions properly:mad:

My Chili's were up in 18 days without propagator, and 10 days with.

I think they will be fine, just give them some warmth. The seed (both Toms and Peppers) is unlikely to have rotted, just not germinated yet ...

Is the "hot press" something you iron trousers with, or have I completely lost the plot? ;)

"Press" = "Cupboard" in NI and Scotland.

"Hot Press" = A hot cupboard e.g. one with a hot tank in it.

Blimey! How does "Press" come to mean cupboard I wonder. That's nearly as bad as the Americas calling Petrol "Gas" - because the one thing it clearly isn't is a gas (assuming you aren't smoking at the time ... :D )

I tried to find the origins of the word press in Google but couldn't find a satisfactory explanation. I 've always called it the hot press. I never thought about it. Colloquial expressions are rife in Northern Ireland. We may speak English but have a totally different way of expressing it.:hehe:
