My tomatoes seem to be doing well this year and they have just started to flower. However they are pretty srange lookig plants I am wondering if I should start to prune them or not . I have some pictures, The plants is an Ailsa Craig (but I mave have gotten the labes the wrong way round when I germinated them the other type was a red cherry).
Anyway what I want to know is should I prune them or not and ofcoures which bits should I remove.

[IMG] If that is Ailsa Craig then you should pinch out all of those side shoots as in pic 1 by the string.. You must keep doing this. I just rub them off when they very first appear.. I usually pinch the top out after the 4th or 5th flower truss sets. Feed well with a Tomatoe feed & you should get some nice fruit.. [IMG]

[IMG]Kaptainzep, you see the small shoot just below the string and above the strong side shoot, you have to take them off or they`ll take all the water.you just nip them out with your finger and thumb.i`ll post more pics.

Thank you for the good illustration I think I see what I should be doing here are some pictures a before and after shot hopefully I am on the right track, I suppose I should have pruned it ealier for less stress on the plant. The other 2 pictures sre of a leaf off another tomato plant I am quite worried about this and have removed all the damaged leaves off the ofending plant. Should I just cut this plant down asap or am I overreacting.

Oh blimey you've worried me now - I planted some cherry tomatoes in mid march (million I think they were called, an F1 hybrid) and they're about 6 inches tall now. How have you got them to that stage already???

I germinated around the end of January then put them under a grow light till spring equinox, since then they have been in a unheated greenhouse. I figured probably better and cheaper to use a light than to heat the greenhouse. Any idea about my leaf.

hi kaptainzep.hows the tomato plant with the above leaf?are the remaining leaves curling and wilting?have you had it outside near any weedkiller sprays that may have drifted with the wind?is it starting to rot at the stems base? that leaf above,i cant tell but are the bubbles on it furry?

I have removed most of the bad leaf from the plant, they did curl up and die. The plant had never been outside ( it is now ) and there is no rot at the base of the stem. The bubbles do seem furry
I have posted a close up on pest and diseses. hope you can help.
