A strange thing is happening in my garden at the moment; I have dozens and dozens of tomato seedlings popping up everywhere in the garden - in the veg patch, the flower beds, in pots, in seed trays with other seedlings in etc...

I perhaps have an explanation for some as the seed may have been in my own compost as I put left over and damaged toms in the compost bin last year, so i can only assume that the seeds have survuved and laid dormant until now; after I used the compost as a mulch.

Quite where the ones in the seed trays and pots have come from I don't know as that was shop bought compost!!???

Obviously not causing a problem as I can just weed them out, but it is quite bizarre to see so many popping up when you go to all the trouble of sowing them in seed trays earlier in the year lol

My shop bought compost is producing lots of grass seedlings. It was cheap stuff and I guess we get what we pay for.

Tomato seed finds it's way into compost in all sorts of ways. From sewage sludge for example. As pete said it is almost indestructible and comes up like grass seed sometimes

Steves got the right idea, pot em up & put em outside the house for 50p:thumbsup:

I got loads of rogue ones coming up. They survive the human digestive tract and so are a common weed in sewage processing plants, along with Marijuanna, although I don't know why people eat those seeds :DOH:Must be Sheals parakeets I supose.
