Wow. Far more advanced than any of mine - today (if I'm lucky) there will be the ceremonial picking of the first ripe tomato.

Nice one Davy, only got 3 red ones so far, but did lob a bananana skin in the greenhouse yesterday to speed things up.

found this while looking for something else -

      http://www.tomatogrowing.co.uk/TomatoWhichReport.pdf

is Chempak really that good or is it better at complimenting the growbag stuff that was used?

Nowt like yours, but I started the 05 June and yesterday had my first two reds
plenty of greens only 1800 to ripen OMG what will I do with them all ? IF they are OK
I started with six plants, but due to a disaster someone gave me twelve others, now they have all come good
Along with six peppers that are now all in flower

I am a virgin grower, and am not into eating peppers, so I think if they come good I will have to offer them for free to peoples at work, then be more in control next year when I am retired :-)

Jack, I sell all my surplus produce for charity and raised £500 last year (I have a lot of surplus :heehee:). People are always happy to buy good, home grown produce at prices lower than the supermarkets - especially when you tell them it's for charity. Our charity is a local one that provides clubs for mentally handicapped children and helps them with speech therapy.

I've been picking tomatoes for nearly two months. Although I can't claim the credit for the very early ones as they were from a couple of plants that Kristen brought along for me for our open day at the end of May. They were 4ft high then - and covered in tomatoes :rolleyespink:. We've been picking our outside Koralik (blight resistant cherry toms) for about three weeks.

With your surplus toms, if you don't sell them, you can make soup (and freeze the soup) or you can freeze the tomatoes to use for cooking. We just chuck them in small bags and straight into the freezer - no washing, no blanching (we don't spray them with chemicals so don't see any point in washing them as they will be cooked anyway).

Jack Mcstrap , u r a star! - just the 18 tom plants then ? !!! I think the tax man is going to be becoming curious about your unofficial market gardening operation!! : ) U need some onions and cougettes on the go and u can go into large scale ratattoilly production !!!
There truly is nothing better than the first tom of the year,eh - except maybe the first strawberry but I reckon level pegging : )
