The most widely grown vegetable (or if you prefer - fruit) in the UK. The prize for 'best all-rounder' must go to SUNGOLD.
    1. One of the easiest varieties to grow.
    2. Very good all-round disease resistance.
    3. Perfect size for popping into the mouth - no waste or mess!
    4. Kids as well as adults love the taste.
    5. Nice looking.
    6. The best flavoured tomato, bar none.
Anyone agree, or am i talking rubbish.........

As far as I'm concerned I've not really noticed any real difference in taste between any of the hundreds of varietys available, ( should add that I haven't grown many of them).
What I do think makes them taste better is the growing conditions. I believe outdoor grown toms are the best, you have to wait longer, but the flavour is better. Also too much water reduces the flavour, I reckon they need to be grown hard to taste good.

No comments Ladybird, as I said I've not really grown many different types, used to grow moneymaker (dont everyone) then ailsa craig, Had a go with various F1 hybrids in the greenhouse some years ago.
Nowdays only grow gardeners delight and marmandie. Both outside.

I like Gardeners Delight, just the right size to pop in your mouth when you are in the garden, also, smaller tomato varieties (in my opinion) have a much more intense taste than the larger Beefsteak type tomato.

This year I am trying Sweet Million and Roma VF also.

I didn't realised there were so many types of Tomato!

I like shirley indoors (tomato [IMG] )

and anything left over extra once the greenhouse is full goes outdoors...last year my outdoor toms performed better than the indoors!

We're growing Alicante again this year - they did well last year, so we decided to stick with them. The only difference is that I remembered to support them with stronger twine this time ;)

I have grown quite a few varieties. However, I think the flavour of the 'cherry' type is the best. Pop them in your mouth like sweets or throw in a frying pan (no oil), warming up and putting on toast. Mmmm!!
