tomatoes and peppers

I have been asked to look after 3 tubs of tomatoes and 2 tubs of peppers for a neighbour for nine days.
Help needed please on the amount of watering required?

Water enough to allow surplus to run out of the base. It may be morning AND evening if it's hot and they get a lot of sun. Feel the leaves - if soft and a bit floppy, the water. Lift up a tub- feel its weight. If its light, then water. If not - don't.
But, do not forget to treat yourself to any produce that ripens whilst you are in charge. That's your reward for handing back plants in the same happy state they came to you in!!

Just to add to Jenny's info. Try to avoid getting water on the leaves and fruit as the sun will scorch them.

 

Just been to visit and they are sitting in a tub with the tub itself sitting in a compost bag.
Does this change the method and quantity of water?

Hmmm, I'm not sure about this, I've not come across this method before. I'll see if I can rustle up other members to help.

 

Sounds like a version of ring culture so water the bag not the 'tub'. By this time of year the roots should be well down into the bag so water just enough to keep the compost moist.
