Tried growing both this summer in our greenhouse, toms did very well and the cucs failed miserably with fruits failing to grow longer than around about an inch or so. I've since learned that these two do not like the same growing conditions. Taking it as read that my greenhouse is okay for toms, if I could section off part of the gh for cucs...what conditions would I need to create in there, and how would I go about it?

    Many thanks in advance.

I have a seperate greenhouse for my cucs after years of mixed results trying them in the same greenhouse. I've found they don't need so much heat or direct sunshine as toms once they get going, the main thing is keeping the humidity high for them.

My Uncle used to grow cucumbers under the staging, using plastic sheets to create a closed off area that is much more humid, which is what cucumbers thrive in and tomatoes hate. He always had great results.

The ideal is to section off the part that's most shady and humid, so that would be behind the tomatoes and away from the door.

I've seen people growing Cues at the end of the greenhouse, with a sheet of plastic screening them from the Toms.

I grow mine at the far end of my greenhouse and just don't open then final vent at that end, which keeps them more humid.

Difficult in a small greenhouse though as to get enough ventilation you also usually have to have a draft too (which dries the plants out of course) - whereas in a larger house it is more achievably to get convection by opening roof vents and having some lourvres lower down.
