I grew my first tomato plant last year and it was reasonably successful.

I didn't throw the old plant away and purposly left some old toms on the surface of the compost. They are now growing and about 4" high

I have a conservatory, if I pot them individually and put them in the conservatory will they keep till next year?

My only concern is how strongly they will smell as hubby hates them!!

They won't do very well over the winter, just grow tall and thin. You would do better just growing new ones from seed next spring.

Tomato plants smell if you handle them.
