Hi there I am so cross! I grew tons of money maker tomatoes and gave them all to family and friends bar the best three I kepy for myself. You guessed it everyone elses are doing well and mine are looking worse by the day! (the moral of the story being don't give away all your tomato plants lol )

I kept them indoors till late may, they looked great, hardened off in the mini greenhouse for a few days, then stood them where they were going to be in there pots for a few days then into a levingtons huge tomato growbag. Flowers hadn't yet opened so I haven't fed yet. Well I planted them out just before the really hot spell, some of the leaves looked a little yellow and crispy but I thought it might just be sun scorch - anyway they are getting worse by the day all the bottom branches looking paler and paler (with purple viens on some) and the top branches which were looking okay a few days ago are now going very dark around the edges. A mistake I possibly made was pinching out some lower branches - which my friend advised me were side shoots however having reviewed this site they weren't they were just the lower branches (last time I listen to her lol) anyway they were reasonably large so I wonder if this may have damaged the plant I did one or two on each plant. I really don't want to buy anymore plants but I fear they may be beyond help now - any thoughts?

Forgot to add - as per the instructions on the bag - I didn't put any drainage holes in it - i haven't watered the last few days as the soil feels moist and I don't want to overdo it - could it be the lack of drainage - I will be fuming if this very expensive grobag is the cause I could have just grown them in pots.

It was supposed to be so easy :(

Surprised that the instructions said no drainage holes - suggest that you double check the instructions. Looks like waterlogging to me - ie lack of drainage. I bet that if you stick a few drainage holes in the bag the tomatoes will perk up in no time.

Ellie, start feeding.:thumb: And I agree with Pastio, put some drainage holes in. If they were in pots there`d be drainage.:D Don`t worry, they`ll come back.:)

Thanks guys I will pierce bag - yes it definately said "be careful not to pierce the bag" I asked a question on here about it as I wasn't sure.

Sounds promising I'll put some drainage holes in, give it a couple of days then a feed - thanks again :)

I think that the problem with some types of growbags is that the manufacturers try to be too clever. They make them with a series of very small holes with the aim that you will get a balance between drainage and water retention (that's why they tell you not to pierce the bag). My experience is that overwatering can block these "pinprick" holes and the bag becomes waterlogged.
    That's my theory, anyway!
