This year I had a major disaster in my mini greenhouse, the wind whipped up and knocked over my mini greenhouse, sending all my seedlings into the veg patch. We managed to rescue most but some were lost. The tomatoes were in with this lot and most were saved, my problem though is this: I planted 6 varieties - Garden Pearl, Marmande, San Marzano, Golden Sunrise, Red Cherry and Tigerella. They are all growing nicely but I have no idea which is which - can anyone help?

My second question is why arent they flowering? :( I've pinched out the suckers on all lower trusses that are developing, but most trusses only have 1 leaf on the end of them. I've begun feeding them with tomorite to try and whip them into action but no luck (except one of the bush varieties in the black pots). Should I pinch the tall ones out now to stop them? They are all being grown in mini greenhouses, in growbags and pots. HELP!!

Sorry to hear your losses this year, and can't help on identifying which is which. I've only got golden sunrise out of your list this year, I will have a look in the greenhouse later to see if the leaf shapes give anything anyway, but I think you just might have to wait and see what fruit develops; obviously Marmand is the large beef type, Golden Sunrise is yellow, Red Cherry is small and Tigerella is striped. I've never grown Garden Pearl or San Marzano so don't know.

They don't look very strong at all, they should be much more advanced than that, if you fed them before the trusses form I would expect lots of leaf growth. I'm at a loss to explain; did you grow in the same position last year with success? All I can think is lack of sunlight or nutrients; but you have some in a grow bag so they should be OK for nutrients. Or maybe over-feeding - when and how much did you feed?

Sorry I'm not very helpful, perhaps you can tell us when you planted them out, the pepers in particular are small to say the least.

I think I was too late with the peppers, but I cant understand the tomatoes. They are in full sunlight pretty much all day and i've been watering them quite a lot every 2 days. I've only fed them once so far as they were planted into the grow bags after being moved from small peat pots (wont be using them again!) and will be feeding them tonight, im going to be feeding them twice every week (says to do this on tomorite bottle for toms in greenhouse). Im just going to see what happens!

I've had lots of potatoes, raddish, rasberries and the blueberries & strawberries are currently ripening so i've done well on some things at least! Just waiting on carrots, broccoli, courgettes, salad onions and lettuce!

I can't think what might be wrong with your toms then, do they have trusses i.e. little flower that aren't yet open?

I just had another look at your photos and I think you may be pinching out the trusses instead of the side shoots! The side shoots grow just above where the leaves branch off the main steam, trusses form above them straight off the main stem, they are some good instructions and pictures on the forum somewhere (you will have to search). I hope I'm wrong!

I think you may be right,JWK. There seems to be a lot of side shoots on those plants.

Must say I do tend to agree with Kristen, some of those plants look very un-tomato like to me. For myself I would not feed them at that stage, I think you will find on the bottle it says that you start feeding when the first truss has set i.e. when little tomatoes appear.

Yes it could be fat hen (the weed on the link) from what I can make out on your photos (except for the ones in pots) I can't imagine how that would happen, you would have to be unlucky to have grown 6 seed weeds, maybe one out of a packet if you were very very unlucky. Fat hen has a distintive silvery shine on its top most growth - most unlike tomoatoes, also it has smooth stems (toms have hairy stems).

The photos of the ones in pots look quite different - more like tomatoes with small hairs on the stems.
Although the small bushy one at the back looks more like a pepper to me.

Your arrows on the photo are not quite right, what you label as a 'truss' is a leaf - you have got the sideshoot correct though. But there are no real trusses on your plant  ie little flower head/buds on them.
