Tomatoes

    is it possible to ripen tomatoes off the plant and if so how..... my greenhouse is so stuffed i need to thin them out..... i am new to this and did not take into account how big and how many toms to put in my 8x6 greenhouse along with cucumbers and chillies and peppers ...... suppose 32 plants was a bit opptomistic:dh:

    Try putting a ripe banana near them â?? the chemicals that the banana gives off will help kick start the toms.

    Also - if you're desperate to thin them out why don't you pick the green ones and make some green tomato chutney. I made some last year â?? deeeeeelish!

    32 in a 8X6 greenhouse! I suppose you don't know how many is to much until you try it :) If you are growing duplicates of the same variety I would just pull up the extras to give some space. You will run into trouble soon with Grey mould (Botrytis), tomatoes hate having their leaves touching each other.
